Elena Leontjeva
Elena Leontjeva chairs the board of the Lithuanian Free Market Institute, having co-founded the LMFI in 1990 and acted as its president from 1993 until 2001. She has directed reasearch and policy advocacy at the Institute, whilst playing a key role in the Lithuanian reform process. Ms Leontjeva has contributed to the reforms in the banking system, advised on the introduction of the currency board and the litas credibility law, helped to build the legal foundation for the securities market, the stock exchange, privatisation, deregulation, tax reform, budget reform and the introduction of private pension insurance.
As well as serving on many official bodies engaged in the reform process, such as the Sunset Commission, Miss Leontjeva has served as a State Councillor on economic reform issues in six consecutive administrations, and in 1998-9 worked as an economic advisor to Lithuanian President, Valdas Adamkus.
She holds degrees in economics, mathematics and programming, and having retired from the presidency of the LMFI in 2001, has dedicated herself to writing fiction.
