Fresh impetus to Czech referendum
In Prague the three governing parties spoke out for a referendum on the EU Constitution in the Czech Republic. Prime Minister Stanislav Gross formerly said, the referendum should be held together with the parliamentary elections mid-2006. "We believe that a large part of the Czechs will vote in favour of the EU Constitution", said the Social Democrat on Monday after a meeting with his Christian Democratic and Liberal coalition partners. In contrast to the government the conservative president Vaclav Klaus is opposing the EU Constitution. For the time being polls do not show any clear majority, neither for the yes nor for the no side (dpa).
