Latvia
2 June 2005 - Ratification in the Latvian parliament. Tenth country that ratifies the EU Constitution.
Latvia's parliament has approved the European constitution on 2 June. Seventy-one of the 100 MPs voted in favour, well over the required two-thirds majority. Latvia, one of the new members of the European Union, is the tenth country to approve the draft constitution.
The country's vote in favour of the constitution comes one day after a clear majority of Dutch voters rejected the document in a referendum. Latvia's Foreign Minister Artis Pabriks said that Europe should look to the future, not to the past.
