Country Information

This section provides information about the EU countries. Currently eleven states have decided to hold a referendum on the EU Constitution. The question is still undecided in eight member states, while in five countries it seems to be unlikely, that a referendum will be held. The Parliament of Lithuania has already ratified the constitution.

Latest polls from January 2005

We expect the yes-side to win with 80% or higher. A lower result for the yes-side would be a big surprise.

But this prediction should not hide the fact that - according to the latest (Jan 05) study of "Cadena SER", an institut that is to be considered quite close to the government:

42.1% of the Spaniards are still undecided
36.2% are in favour of a "yes" to the Constitution
5.8% will say "no"
15.3% plan to abstain or cast a blank vote

The basis of their decicsion making is quite thin:
91.7% (!!!) Spanish citizens say they know little or nothing about the document. Only 0.5% claim to know MUCH about the Constitution and 6.9% think they know enough.
