Country Information

This section provides information about the EU countries. Currently eleven states have decided to hold a referendum on the EU Constitution. The question is still undecided in eight member states, while in five countries it seems to be unlikely, that a referendum will be held. The Parliament of Lithuania has already ratified the constitution.

Propaganda all over the country

Just ONE example: The Spanish government supports a meeting for the “YES-side” with facilities in the National House of Deputies where Valéry Giscard d'Estaing says: "the answer of the Spaniards" in the referendum is "quite significant for the European process". The president of the Convention spoke at the International Universitary Forum, organized by the university of Madrid and the Parliamentary Journalist Association. "There are no perfect works", says Giscard referring to the EU Constitution. Although in this case the perfection went "as far as it has been possible", according to the interests of all the EU countries.

In the same event, the president of the European Parliament, Josep Borrel, warned from the "risk of abstention" in the referendum. In front of a big student audience, Borrel urged young people to commit themselves to a European construction because "Europe cannot make itself". MEP and former minister of Internal Affairs Jaime Mayor Oreja assured that an affirmative vote for the European Constitution will to be expected in Spain.
