Overview

Until Tony Blair has changed his mind and made his famous “U-Turn” in April 2004 it had been very unlike that Britain will have a vote. But the pressure in public and parliament increased to a level, that finally a referendum was announced.

British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has announced on 6 July that the UK will freeze moves to pave the way for a referendum after the rejection of the Treaty in France and The Netherlands.

Polls show that voters in Britain are very strongly opposed to the EU Constitution.

A lot of groups are campaigning against the EU Consitution. The Green Party joined them in Octocer 2004 deciding to actively campaign against the proposed EU Constitution.
