Overview
In July 2003 the government decided surprisingly to hold a referendum on the EU Constitution. It will be the first referendum in the Great Duchy since 1936. The motion demanding a referendum on the EU Constitution was approved by a huge majority in parliament.
A Eurobarometer poll reveals that the people of Luxembourg are the most in favour of the Constitution of the EU Member States, with 75% in favour.
After the rejection of the treaty by France and The Netherlands Luxembourg is set to press ahead with its referendum on 10 July.
