Dutch Labour leader argues for repeat referendum
Labour party leader Wouter Bos wants a new referendum to be held in 12 months' time if the Netherlands is the only EU member state to reject the European Constitution.
In an interview with the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper, Mr Bos said he thought the Constitution would not go ahead if countries such as France and Great Britain also voted against it. But if the Netherlands is the only country to vote "no", he said he doubted whether other countries would be willing to return to the negotiating table.
Mr Bos is in favour of the constitution, and argues that rejecting it would make it more difficult to tackle issues like terrorism and asylum seekers effectively.
