70% support for cherry-picking
EUPolitix reports on a survey conducted amongst politicians, business leaders, NGOs, journalists and senior officials, which shows widespread support for pressing on with certain clauses of the EU Constitution. These would include core institutional elements, such as a single diplomatic service and EU foreign minister. Of those questioned in the survey, 70% believed that such moves would not be "undemocratic", despite last year's 'no votes' in France and the Netherlands. The FT runs an article on French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy's personal support for constitutional 'cherry-picking'.
